In a round-robin bracket, each athlete competes against every other athlete in their division.
While this format is excellent for fairness and mat time, it often results in athletes finishing with the same number of wins, making it difficult to determine a clear winner based solely on victories. That’s where tiebreaker rules come into play.
At Brave, we've carefully designed a set of Standard Round-Robin Tiebreaking Rules that reflect the true spirit of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
✅ 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲'𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱-𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀
- Number of Wins - A win is a win!! Does not matter is if was submission or points. The final outcome was a win!
- Number of wins by Submission - The ultimate goal in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to control and submit your opponent. A submission win demonstrates clear technical superiority and control. Therefore, athletes with more submission victories rank higher.
- Head-to-Head Result - Finally, if two tied athletes are still tied, a direct match between them will decide the outcome.
🎯 The Philosophy Behind the Rules
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not a race to score, nor a sport of stalling.
It’s about control—positional, strategic, and mental—and ultimately about achieving the finish.
These tiebreaker rules reward athletes who:
✅ Seek the submission as the highest goal.
✅ Pursue it quickly and decisively.
✅ Maintain dominance throughout the match.
✅ Display strong defense and control.
✅ Compete with efficiency and clarity.
In this way, Brave ensures that our tiebreakers aren’t just fair!
They honor the true essence of Jiu-Jitsu itself = Control & Submit!
