Sandbagging Policy

Brave Jiu-Jitsu is committed to creating a fair and competitive environment for all athletes. To protect the integrity of our tournaments, we strictly enforce the following sandbagging rules. These guidelines are designed to discourage unfair practices and outline the consequences of violations.

What is Sandbagging?

Sandbagging occurs when an athlete intentionally enters a skill level below their true ability to gain an unfair advantage.

Examples of Sandbagging

Registering an athlete for a belt/skill level lower than their current one.

Registering an athlete in a younger age group than their actual age.

How Brave Jiu-Jitsu Handles Kids Sandbagging

Athletes will not be allowed to compete in a division lower than their actual age, rank, or skill level.

If sandbagging is identified, Brave Jiu-Jitsu staff will work directly with the athlete, their coach, and parents/guardians (when applicable) to correct the placement.

The focus will always be on education, ensuring families and coaches understand the importance of fair and accurate registration.

In repeated or severe cases, disciplinary actions may be taken, including temporary suspension from Brave Jiu-Jitsu events.

Reporting Sandbagging

Concerns identified before event day should be emailed to Brave Jiu-Jitsu as soon as possible for review.

Any complaints about sandbagging must be brought to the tournament director on the day of the event. Referees cannot take action. Only the tournament director has the authority to resolve these matters.

Brave Jiu-Jitsu is dedicated to creating a level playing field where kids can grow, compete fairly, and enjoy the sport.
