Takedown Only Brackets

Brave's takedown only brackets are a unique and exciting format designed to help athletes sharpen their stand-up game.

In these brackets, the match starts standing and remains standing during the entire match. No guard pulling, no submissions, no groundwork. The focus is 100% on Wrestling, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu takedown skills.

Athletes score points by executing clean, controlled takedowns. Once a takedown is completed and control is established for a brief moment, the referee stops the action, resets both athletes to standing, and the match continues.

This format encourages:

  • Explosiveness and takedown timing.
  • Balance and control.
  • Real competition experience in takedown exchanges.
  • Confidence in the standing phase.

It’s a fast-paced, technical, and fun way to compete! The takedown only bracket is ideal for athletes who want to test and improve their takedown abilities in a safe, controlled environment.

Basic Rules & Format

  • Takedown without control: 1 point.
  • Takedown with control: 2 points.
  • A 10-point lead (mercy rule) ends the match.
  • Bracket method: Round Robin (max 4 matches).
  • Match duration: 2, 3, or 4 mins. depending on age.
  • Skill levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
